London Happy-Hour aficionados, MappiHour, had a vision for a website dedicated to providing users with easy access to affordable drinks in their favourite areas of the city. Designed to find a Happy-Hour based on location or time, the website utilises Google maps to make finding a venue on the move as easy as planning in advance.
We designed and developed this challenging website using the ‘mobile-first’ philosophy, resulting in a website that feels like an app on mobile and a feature-rich website on desktop. The accompanying branding and all promotional material for launch and beyond were a pleasure to deliver.
The Brand / The Logo, visual language and promotional materials
We began the MappiHour project by developing a logo to complement the brand's vision. We sourced a font that reflects the user's fun and on-the-move social behaviour, teamed with a distinctive icon - essential for the digital environment that Mappihour resides in.
The modern red expresses energy and catches the eye, contrasting with the competition who usually opt for the blue hues. Imagery is centred around the environments and variety drinks - which is what the users are really looking for.
The Website / Design, UX, development and HTML email
The process of designing the website began from the perspective of the user. Knowing that users, particularly in London, rarely plan their social escapages too far in advance, it was important that an appropriate Happy Hour could be found with minimal clicks or effort.
Alongside this, we had to make sure the website was optimised fully for both mobile on the move, and the desktop/laptop for those who plan last minute before they leave the office. With this concept as the gold standard, we were able to rationalise and categorise the Happy Hours to provide a balance of accuracy and simiplicity of usage when searching on the website.
The final product allows the MappiHour team to easily add and amend Happy Hours internally without any complicated processes. It was a project that pushed the boundaries of what we expected WordPress to be able to achieve.
